Linea Capital to Invest $10 Mln in Companies in Hispanic Market

August 22, 2005 (Bloomberg)
Linea Capital, a New York-based company set up to invest in companies serving the U.S. Hispanic market, plans to raise $10 million by November, said Cristina Almeida, a founding partner.
Linea Capital plans to invest in finance, consumer and media companies that target Hispanic customers and have annual sales below $25 million. Almeida said she expects to start buying equity stakes in the companies by the first quarter of next year.
"The purchasing power of U.S. Hispanics stands at $652 billion dollars -- that's bigger than the GDP of any Latin American nation," Almeida, a former vice president of emerging markets at Wasserstein, Perella & Co., said in a statement.
Almeida founded the company with Emily Burg, a former editor at the Deal, a trade publication focused on mergers.
